Strong showing by UNCG at SEDAAG Geography Bowl

North Carolina’s World Geography Bowl Team took home their 2nd straight SEDAAG World Geography Bowl Championship on November 20, 2017, at the Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers Annual Meeting in Starkville, Mississippi.
North Carolina went a perfect 5-0 in round-robin competition, outscoring opponents by a combined total of 475-120. In the championship round, North Carolina defeated a combined Virginia-Georgia team 125-85 to take home the trophy.
The students representing North Carolina were: Jesse Andrews and Montana Eck (Appalachian State); Matthew Balentine, Shane Canup, Jesse Lane, and John Shields (UNCG).
Jesse Andrews took home the Most Valuable Player award with an average of 32 points per match. Shane Canup finished third in individual scoring, with an average of 28 points per match. Both will represent North Carolina as part of the SEDAAG World Geography Bowl team that will compete at the American Association of Geographers (AAG) meeting, April 10-14, 2018, in New Orleans.
