Welcome to the Department of Geography at UNCG! Geography is a discipline that brings a range of approaches and technologies to bear on some of the most pressing questions of our time. How does globalization impact the local economies of our state and region? What sort of transportation system can most effectively, sustainably, and equitably move people through space? How will environmental and climate change impact our forests, shorelines, and agriculture? What is the most effective way to communicate and analyze information about disease and environmental hazards using geographic technologies? These are just a few examples of the things our faculty and students address in the classroom and out in the field. Much of what we do is presented on these webpages, but the best way to find out about what geography is and what it can do for you is to pay us a visit, or better yet, take a class in our department. To get a feel for our sense of community, stop by one of our Wednesday Geography Club lunches to meet students and faculty and hear a speaker (yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch!). Let me or any of our faculty know if you have any questions about geography, our department, or our B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. programs.
